Game On! Sordid Past #flashfiction #8sunday

Game On! is a short story I’m serving up on Weekend Writing Warriors for #8Sunday. Heath is a semi-pro football player in town for the season. He meets Jordan, a teacher with obvious trust issues, who proposes a sexual game. In this week’s snippet, they’ve returned from dinner and trip along Virginia Beach’s  strip where the young crowd made Heath feel his years.

Back at his place, Heath led her between the neighboring houses and onto the beach where a crescent moon hung lazily over the horizon.

He curled an arm around her waist as they walked. Her lime and coconut lotion enticed him to taste the silky skin along her neck while wisps of her hair tickled his face as her head leaned against him.

“Don’t you want to ask me about my sordid past?” she whispered.

“The lawsuit or the man,” he asked, turning to face her. “You lived it, Jordan, why would I want to put you through any more pain to satisfy any curiosity I might have?”

“I care what you think of me.” Her eyelids lowered in a resigned manner.

Hope you enjoyed this week’s eight and will check out other Weekend Writing Warriors‘ blogs.

  1. Oh, makes me want to take a moonlit walk on the beach! Excellent job of painting the scene and using the senses. And I’m invested in this character. I hope he’s not a user or a jerk who moves on.

Have a Happy New Year, Dani! many blessings to you and yours in 2015 🙂

  2. Her lime and coconut lotion is making me hear Harry Nilsson in my head. You put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up. lol. I really enjoyed this snippet. One small thing jumped out at me, though: “Don’t you want to ask me about my sorted past?” she whispered. – I think you meant ‘sordid past’, correct?

Wonderful post! Happy New Year to you! 🙂
