This vacation began with depressing weather on OBX, but things turned around early in the week.  Today is a beautiful Independence Day! We have friends arriving for the day and are among friends on the street where we rent.  Several families return the same week each year.  Our kids have grown up together and our week tends to be a reunion as well as a holiday.

My husband and I both spend summers here in our youth and we continued the tradition. I’ve often pondered why this place lures me back each year.  For me, it’s the right combination of homey and a get-a-way.  We’re a short walk to the beach and a quick drive to the resort area.

From our deck, I enjoy the birds that inhabit the dune shrubbery and have a fantastic view the ocean for not being on the oceanfront. Less than five minutes away, are two fishing piers and and multitude of eateries and shopping.  Historical Manteo is a short drive. For me, OBX provides  a perfect combination of relaxation and activity.
