Game On! A Southern Endearment #8Sunday

weekend_writing_warriorsveteransbadge_4Game On! is my new short story I’m serving up on Weekend Writing Warriors for #8Sunday.

A semi-pro football player meets a teacher who intrigues him with an offer of a different type of game. While tossing the football at the beach, Heath and his teammate start up a conversation with a couple women after nearly hitting them with a misfired pass.  After some friendly teasing, Heath is intrigued by Jordan’s spunky personality and athletic beauty.

She leaned forward and flipped up her shades and claimed him with a pair of wide, honey-brown eyes.

Arousal snaked through his belly, winding tight. “So you’re a local?”

“Born and raised,” she replied. “Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe I hear a southern inflection in your voice, she said with a smile reaching her mesmerizing doe eyes.

A summer fling or more trouble? Heath’s body demanded what his mind cautioned. Then again, there wasn’t anything wrong with dinner. “I’m originally from South Carolina, dahlin.”

Game On! Are you a hermit? #8Sunday

weekend_writing_warriorsveteransbadge_4Game On! is my new short story I’m serving up on Weekend Writing Warriors for #8Sunday.

A semi-pro football player meets a teacher who intrigues him with an offer of a different type of game. This week we pick up after Heath’s teammate has miss fired a pass on the beach to attract two women. After Jordan’s perfect catch, Heath is entranced by her athleticism and beauty. He introduces himself, but hesitates when she asks if he’s on vacation.

Saying he played for the new Triton’s team might be a gamble. “I just started a job with a probationary period and renting a house near here.”

Jordan took note of his right hand before asking, “You wouldn’t rather stay closer to the commercial strip at in Virginia Beach?”

Heath raked his fingers through the sand where he sat. “Naw, got a decent view from the deck and I can come here if I’m feeling social.”

“Are you normally a hermit?” she asked smiling one-sided.

Friendly teasing, he liked her already. Not willing to admit his job was consuming and exhausting, he returned her taunt, “More like picky whom I spend time with.”
