Do you have a favorite character from any of your books?
I love writing from the hero’s point of view, probably because I’ve been told I think like a lot like a guy. I’d have to say my favorite is Ray from my pre-published novel, Hot as Blazes. He has a quiet self-assured demeanor that commands respect. Although a fit and handsome firefighter, he sees himself as an average guy. There is only room for one woman in his heart and he’s patiently waiting for her to return. And there’s where the story begins…
If you were him/her what would you have done differently in their situation?
I might have disregarded Jo’s insistence to handle things on her own and flown out to California when I thought she was in trouble. But then there wouldn’t have been much left to the story.
Do you believe in the traditional HEA (Happily Ever After) or do you think sometimes characters don’t need (or maybe deserve) them?
When reading romance, I want and expect a happily ever after or at least the presumption of one. I’ve boycotted romance authors who withheld an HEA, expecting me to purchase the sequel.
As a writer, my job is to elevate the conflict until my characters achieve growth and complete their arc. At that point, I believe they should reap the benefits. Day to day life doesn’t always turnout like we want, no matter how hard we try.
The happily ever after is why I enjoy reading romance. In the real world there’s just a flat tire waiting with a kindly looking serial killer offering to help…
