Game On! A cold fish #8Sunday

Game On! is a short story I’m serving up on Weekend Writing Warriors for #8Sunday.

A semi-pro football player meets a reserved teacher who intrigues him with an offer of a different type of game. In last week’s 8 Heath called Jordan darlin when she asked if he was from the South. Her adverse reaction stunned him. In this week’s snippet they have left the beach and are back at their vehicles where their two friends are scheduling to meet later…

The word darling had sent Jordan into fight or flight mode. Her gut reaction to the endearment proved she wasn’t completely over being burned by Richard. If she hadn’t been so gullible, she wouldn’t have become news fodder as a business man’s plaything. She’d lost her self-esteem, ability to trust, and nearly her livelihood.

Heath’s southern pronunciation of the word sounded sexy and he might have asked her out if she hadn’t sudden turned into a cold fish.

Gigi and Dugan scheduled their later rendezvous while Jordan gazed at Heath, her sunglasses concealing her apprehension.

“We could tag along, if you’re interested,” he said with his hand lingering on the top of the convertible’s door.

“Thanks, but – maybe I’ll see you down at the beach sometime,” she said, offering a reserved smile.

This week: Our authors’ favorite type of hero …

RomanceWeeklyThanks to the awesome Kim Handysides for this week’s interesting author questions, and if you arrived here via Women’s fiction author, Tessa Gray, thanks for continuing the hop.

What’s your ideal: alpha or beta and why? A mixture. I don’t believe a guy is totally one or the other. I’m pretty passive until someone jerks my chain. On the other side of the coin, I have a friend who is a take charge individual, however, when someone confronts her, she has trouble standing up for herself. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. How a man handles those is what makes him a hero or an a$$.

As for my type of hero, I’ll said I like the strong silent type who doesn’t try to impress, but is secure in his own skin. A man of few words, but means what he says and can back it up.

Do you have a male buddy or mate you use for confirmation or inspiration when crafting your heroes?

I worked in a male dominated company for over twenty years and learned to decipher the male psyche, but when I get stumped, I ask my nineteen year old son.

What does any hero have to do to win your heart? Loyalty and honesty are at the top of my list and if you have a body like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, that’s icing on the cake.
