Game On! Don’t call me darlin, darlin #8Sunday

weekend_writing_warriorsveteransbadge_4Game On! is my short story I’m serving up on Weekend Writing Warriors for #8Sunday.

A semi-pro football player meets a teacher who intrigues him with an offer of a different type of game. While tossing the football at the beach, Heath and his teammate start up a conversation with a couple women after nearly hitting them with a misfired pass.  After some friendly teasing she asks if he’s Southern because of his dialect and he replies, “I’m originally from South Carolina, dahlin.”

Jordan recoiled as if slapped, sank back into her beach chair, and folded her arms over her chest. Gooseflesh pimpled along her biceps.

“I’m sorry, that was forward,” he said, softly.

“Just a sudden chill from the beer.”

He didn’t buy it. Damn, he’d never tanked with a girl by calling her darling. How could a mere endearment piss her off more than almost being nailed with a football? That’s what he wanted and needed to find out.

Cursed be the Wicked final-1Today we have  Cooper Shaw, from Cursed be the Wicked in the hot seat. By the way, it’s on sale for 99c for a limited time on Amazon.

Thanks for having Coop and me, Dani!

Welcome, I’m excited to have you and J.R. Let’s get started.

Tell us about your love interest and how did you meet?

Her name is Finnley Pierce, but she might hurt you in some way or another, if you call her by her full name. So to most people she goes by Finn. I met her when I came back to Salem, Mass for a job I was on. She was working behind the desk of a B&B I stopped at for the night and nearly made me want to high tail it out of town right then and there. She also made me want to stay in the worst way possible.

I love unusual heroine names. Is there something no one would believe about you? Large or small.

My mother was a witch. So is my girlfriend. I think.

Got me there! What’s the one thing you’d never tell your lover?

HA! Like I could get away with not telling Finn anything. That woman has an intuition like I’ve never heard of before.

Do you rely on your physical prowess or your intelligence to attract a lover?

Heh. I think my sparkling personality and quick wit could only ever attract one person. And who knows why she puts up with me.

I’m sure she has her reasons 😉 So let’s dig deeper. Name something you’ve done that could have landed you in prison?

I nearly killed an old ex-BFF of my mother’s once. Twice, technically. Had he been the type of guy to press charges, I think there’s an excellent chance that I could have spent a good amount of time behind bars.

In deed. Well, he probably deserved your wrath. Moving on, what do you believe is your most attractive feature?

I mentioned my sparkling personality right? It’s addictive. Really.

You’re winning me over already.  Are you sure you don’t have some special powers?  If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be?

Once upon a time I might have answered that question by saying I wish I’d have paid more attention when I was younger to the things and people around me. I might have even though I could’ve made a difference had that been the case. But I’d be wrong.

Today I can honestly say, I wouldn’t change a thing.

You’re a smart man to know that.  Let’s go back to your lover. Is there a favorite piece of clothing you like to remove from her?

Those damned short skirts she likes to wear. Definitely those.

Oh my. And have you taken her to an interesting place in one of those skirts?

How about the most interesting place she’s even taken me?

It was this old church out in some forgotten woods around Salem. She told me this story about a witch that ran it and the lover that built it for her. Ironic, a witch running a church, but it’s not what you think. Honest. The parallels between that story and my mother’s was . . . unsettling. I still visit it sometimes though. Nostalgia I guess.

Whooa….and the hottest thing she’s ever said to you?

The question here is, what hasn’t Finn said that wasn’t hot? The woman knows how to make my head spin, that’s for sure.

So what intrigues you most about her?

Her insight. I’d love to know the inner workings of her mind, sometime.

There’s got to be something she does that drives you crazy?

She keeps secrets from me . . . about myself. I mean I get it, she doesn’t want me to know until it’s time for me to know and I can know without freaking out, yeah, yeah, yeah, but still. Crazy.

What about  you? Do you have a secret one no one knows? Can you tell it or will it be a spoiler.

Woman, I have secrets I didn’t even know about. *winks*

Coop, you’re a hoot!  Thanks for taking the heat!

Check our J.R. Richardson’s Cursed be the Wicked

Cooper Shaw lives his life under a pen name and enjoys the anonymity it provides during his journeys across the globe as a seasoned writer for a travel magazine. When his job lands him in his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts to cover the famous Festival of the Dead, he soon realizes that he can’t stay invisible forever as he faces ghosts from a past he’s been trying to forget ever since he left.
The city holds nothing but bad memories for Coop until he meets a quirky young woman with an old soul and curious insights by the name of Finnley Pierce. While she acts as his tour guide through a town he thought he knew, Finn helps him unearth the truth of his childhood and might even begin to open up his heart.
By unraveling the mystery of his father’s murder, Coop may finally accept who he is, where he came from, and perhaps even realize what he wants for his future.

J.R. Richardson: GetAttachment
I’m a writer of stories and lover of life.
I grew up in Maryland with four siblings, three parents and an endless number of cousins within the vicinity. Today I live in Florida with my two girls and a husband that shares my same sense of humor and basic take on life as we know it.
Life is too short to put dreams on the back burner.
I’ve always loved writing, and always enjoy a good mystery. In 2012, I wrote Cursed be the Wicked, a character driven, paranormal mystery romance that was picked up by Soul Mate Publishing and released in March of 2014. Since publishing Cursed, I’ve also written a couple of short stories and am currently working on a romantic comedy that I hope to get out to the public soon.
If you give any of my stories a read, I hope you enjoy them, and may you have some fun.
