Cocky Confessions: Jord of Son of Thunder by S.C. Mitchell

cocky confessions_teal

TSon of Thunderoday on Cocky Confessions we have S. C. Mitchell’s hero from Son of Thunder. Tell us a little about yourself. My name is Jord Thorson, and I am a professor of ancient mythology at the University of Minnesota. I am a Norse god, the son of the god, Thor, and the goddess, Sif. I was born over 400 years ago, as the Norse gods were going mythical, so I don’t appear in any of the old Norse legends. I met Meghan Larson one stormy night, when she called me to the museum she works at to identify an ancient artifact, which turned out to be my father’s belt of power.
Tell us something no one would believe about you? Large or small. Well, of course, most mortals don’t believe I’m a god, and I don’t normally tell people that anyway. But, even my closest friends don’t know that I went to help the Greek gods during the fall of Mount Olympus. You see, we were staying out of the war at that point, but I just couldn’t stand by and do nothing.

What’s one thing Meghan can do to totally turn you on? Forgive me if I’m smiling broadly, but there was this time… Well, we were somewhat trapped under Utgard Keep in Jotunheim, training an army of slaves to rise up against the giants. We’d been working very hard and, though exhausted, went to clean up at the bathing lake. There was this little, secluded bay we had all to ourselves. To this day, anytime we go swimming, well…

Enjoy water fun, huh… *Raises eyebrow* Do you rely on your physical prowess or your intelligence to attract a lover? Actually, I spent a lot of the time we were together trying to keep Meghan from falling in love with me. It was the only way I could protect her. Those damn prophecies make life hard.

Forbidden love is the hottest. Is there something you’ve done that could have landed you in prison? Let me count the ways. Car theft, kidnapping (not really, but the police were after me for that)… Oh yeah, there was also that little incident at the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where I shot lightning through the front doors, shattering glass everywhere, so Meghan and I could escape. I suppose I could also have gone to jail for collapsing the roof of the Minneapolis Metrodome, but seriously, that was not my fault.

And adrenaline junkie…hey but what god isn’t! LOL Who’s your best buddy? What do you guys do when bromancing? Without a doubt, Heimdall, the Guardian of the Rainbow Bridge. Heimie and I go way back, well, he goes back a lot farther than me. One of the oldest gods in Asgaard, the guy sees and knows everything. As a young god, there is no better place to be than sitting, drinking mead and talking with Heimdall.

I enjoy tipping back brewskis with my girl buddies on occasion, too. So why do you have a day job when you’re a Norse god? It can get a bit boring hanging around Asgaard, so a few decades ago I came down to Midgaard and got a doctorate in ancient history. I now teach classes in ancient mythology at the University of Minnesota.

How does a god/professor stay fit?  Hunting giants and dark elves is a great way to keep in shape. They’re always trying to sneak into Midgaard to cause trouble. You humans have no idea how vigilant the Norse gods have been over the past centuries.

Let me just say thank you for the entire human race. If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be? My sister, Thrud, assigned a Valkerie named Valerie Hola to look out for me when I was younger. She kind of hung around even after I grew up, and I could never get rid of her. I tended to treat her pretty badly, and I don’t think I really appreciated all the things Val did for me until it was too late.

I sense your sadness and regret, so I’ll ask something on the lighter side. What’s your most comfy article of clothing? Now days, it’s probably Megingjörð, my dad’s old belt of power. It makes me a lot stronger, but it does tend to be a bit talkative. Like right now, you can’t hear it, but he’s chattering away at me in my head.

It’d be nice to have one of those, with a mute mode of course. My brain is too chatty already. Tell readers the most interesting place you’ve taken your lover? Meghan loved Alfheim, the city of the high elves. There’s this perfect beauty about the city, like everything is always in its right place. And it’s always spring there. The air is the sweetest, freshest you’ve ever breathed.

Clean air and always in bloom, sounds amazing. On a serious note, what worries you the most? Well, the Heavenly War is far from over. Loki, Set, and the Titans continue to recruit from the other pantheons, and now that Asgaard has entered the war, we have to keep constantly on guard.

Do you have a war horse or other method of travel that is special to you?  I have a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle I love to ride. I can drive it even in bad weather because of my weather control powers. I just project a dome of heated air to shield me from falling rain or snow, and melt any ice from the roadways. I also have a chariot pulled by two goats that can fly. It’s faster, but not as much fun as my Harley, and the goats tend to bite.

There’s a ton of bikers who’d love to have those type of special options. It’s been great having you Jord! I wish Meghan and you Godspeed and that the war will end soon.

Blurb: Son of Thunder

The man looked like a god. Then again, he was one. . .

Jord Thorson was a god– the son of Thor, the Norse God of Thunder. In his search to find his missing father, Jord seeks out the mortal, Meghan Larson, who is in possession of his only clue–Megingjörð, Thor’s magical belt of power.

But when the belt decides to take matters into its own hands, locking itself around Meghan’s waist, Jord and Meghan are plunged into the middle of a massive conflict that rages across the heavens.

Giants, magical artifacts, and a golden city in the clouds weren’t exactly what Meghan Larson expected when that amazing belt arrived at her museum. Now Megingjörð is stuck around her waist and talking to her in her head. She’s got to be dreaming, but with the wonders around her and hunky Jord Thorson at her side, Meghan’s not sure she wants to wake up.

Excerpt:

Suddenly, every other window in the room shattered. Meghan could make out a half dozen more giants pulling themselves into the room. In the gloom behind, she heard dozens of guttural voices. Jord grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the doorway.

“More are coming,” he said. “We have to get out of here.”

Meghan shook off his grip.

“Back off, Fabio. No one messes with my museum . . . even when I’m dreaming.”

She picked up a heavy oak worktable and lobbed it at the closest giant. Her heart thundered. She could feel the adrenaline pumping through her system. She’d take them all on. Dream-Meghan was a kick-ass superhero.

The dreamy-eyed professor stepped suddenly in front of her, his warm hands clutching her arms. Would a kiss be out of line? This was, after all, her dream. She leaned in, but Jord shook her.

“Meghan, this is no dream. You’re awake and very much in danger. You need to come with me, right now.”

Cocky Confessions: The Dragon’s Heart with Daniel Ashborne

cocky confessions_teal

Dragon's HeartDaniel Ashborne from Eden Ashe’s The Dragon’s Heart is sitting in the Cocky Confessions hot seat today.

Welcome, Daniel. Thanks for agreeing to be interviewed. Let’s give everyone a glimpse into your life. May I ask what you do for a living? *Snorts* I’m king of the entire race of dragon-shifters.

Oh…I see. Sounds like a busy life. As king, do you have a dragon-shifter love interest? If so, how did you meet?

I met Shelby Kincade a year ago on the set of her newest movie. She was the lead actress and I was hired to head up security when rumor got to me of a rogue dragon Hunter on set. The Dragon’s Heart picks up eleven months after our first date—also known as the night I blew up her world and spent a year thinking she tried to have me killed.

So, you like humans as well. Tell us something no one would believe about you? Large or small.

Children scare me. Don’t tell Shelby.

I won’t breathe a word of it. Certainly don’t need to be on the bad side of a dragon king. Is there the one thing you’d never tell her besides being wary of kids?

*Furrows brow in deep thought* She learned most of my deepest, darkest secrets in our story, so I don’t think there’s anything I wouldn’t tell her now.

What’s something she does that totally turns you on?

Smile. Shelby has this smile she’s famous for, the one she shows the world. And then she has this smile that’s just for me. It kills me and turns me on every time.

Which leads to my next question. Do you rely on your physical prowess or your intelligence to attract a lover?

*Snort*

Dragon…right. Have you ever done something that could have landed you in prison?

I’m more than two thousand years old. We won’t go there.

Who’s your best buddy? What do you guys do when bromancing?

I’m a dragon. We don’t have friends. But if you’re asking about the male I trust most, he would be Luca Dragan. He’s a good sparring partner and I trust him to have my back in the middle of any battle.

Is there a specific body type, hair, or eye color that attracts you? Does your current lover meet the criteria?

Tall brunettes. I’m 6’8, so I preferred women I wouldn’t be afraid to touch. And Shelby is the exact opposite of that. Short, blonde, slender. She’s perfect. She even manages to get me to talk.

So, not much of talker. I’m assuming there have been previous brunettes in your past.

Though Shelby and I met a year before, our story actually starts when I get a call that I’d accidentally mated to someone.

Accidentally…hmmm. Bet that was a bone of contention in the beginning. What’s the hottest thing a lover has ever said to you?

“I love you.”

What intrigues you most about Shelby?

*Raises brow* Have you met Shelby? She’s this tiny, feisty, beautiful little ball of energy and light. And though I’ve yet to figure out how she did it, she wrapped me around her little finger.

Does she do anything that drives you crazy?

She insists the other dragons I trust are friends. No matter how many times I tell her we don’t have friends.

I’m sure she’ll endear you to some of our human ways over time. Last question, what does a dragon king do for fun? Any hobbies?

Does training count? What about sex?

LOL Total alpha male. Daniel, even a human males consider sex a great hobby! Thanks for enlightening our audience to the ways of dragons and offering insight into a dragon king’s mind.

Blurb for The Dragon’s Heart:

“We’re dragons. We don’t do the mushy friend thing.” – Daniel

The dragon-shifter king will do anything to keep his mate alive…even if it means war.

After millennia as king of the dragon-shifters, Daniel Ashborne wants a little peace and quiet, especially from the beautiful Hollywood starlet who haunts his memories. His escape tactics end abruptly when he is called to the ER to save the one woman he wants to forget, but who now bears his mark.

Shelby Kincade’s life and movie career were nearly destroyed when Daniel vanished a year ago. Now he’s back, claiming they have been accidentally mated. Getting over him once was hard enough, but she must choose either the life of her dreams or the man she can’t live without. With peace finally on the horizon between the dragon-shifters and the Hunters, an assassination attempt on the dragon king and his mate shatters everything. Tensions rebuild as Daniel and his loyal team of shifters try to discover who put out the hit. Enemy and ally lines are crossed, but in the end–after the battle ash has settled–no one could have foreseen who has plotted for their own gain.

Excerpt:

A furious Daniel towered over her.

Realizing she was in an ambulance, she scooted back on the stretcher, pulling the sheet tighter around herself. Something was very, very off. There was no pain or range of motion issue with her shoulder. There was just a blackness where the last hour should have been. Whatever was wrong with her, it ran core deep, and had everything to do with the man treating her as if she’d caused all the wrongs in his world.

She let out a pathetic snort. He had vanished on her, leaving her to face the last year alone. The media wasn’t forgiving at the best of times, and they’d had a field day–field year–with America’s Good Girl falling from grace. A dead body, and the disappearance of the man accused of the crime, was too good of a story for the media not to run around the clock for a month straight.

It didn’t make any sense why he hated her. For as much hell as he’d caused her in the last eleven months, professionally and personally, nothing had prepared her for the blast of emotions that rocked her at seeing him standing close to her again. She had no idea what to do with the realization she’d missed him. As soon as she figured out what the hell was going on, she needed deep psychological help.

“So.” She was careful to keep her left arm tucked against her stomach as she tried in vain to put more distance between them. It still didn’t hurt, but the thought of ripping the rapidly healing wound open made her queasy. She’d never been a big fan of blood. Her teeth tugged at her bottom lip as she tried not to worry about how much space he took up, even while sitting on the bench. He was huge. “You’re alive.” When he leaned forward, bringing them closer together, she tried to keep her face impassive. Her gaze dropped to the huge forearms he braced against tree trunk-sized thighs, before she snapped her attention back to his face. He was a lunatic who looked to be on the verge of major violence. She wasn’t so confused she didn’t understand the combination was a powder keg with a lit fuse. “I wasn’t sure. The police said you were gone before the ambulance ever got to the hospital.”

“Disappointed, princess?”

She almost snorted at him. She’d spent the last year hoping he was still alive, and trying not to let the uncertainty drive her out of her mind. “I didn’t get myself shot on purpose, you know. So whatever you’re mad at me about, it’s not my fault. I didn’t ask them to call you.”

“Right.” He dragged his gaze from the mark over her heart back to her face. Though she was sure she was imagining it, she could have sworn his eyes lingered on her mouth. “Just like the Hunter showing up in your bedroom was just a weird twist of fate?”

“A hunter?” She asked, certain she was missing a huge part of the conversation. “Daniel, my house was in the most exclusive part of Los Angeles. There isn’t anywhere to hunt.”

“Ryuu.”

She remembered that word from their first date. He’d told her it was an ancient dragon curse because his sister didn’t like him using cuss words. Funny. She’d thought it was sweet at the time. Now she was sure it just made him bat-shit crazy.
